How to Add Control Panel to the Windows 10 Start Menu (and More)

You will find in this post how to add the Control Panel to the Start menu (as a tile and shortcut), the taskbar, the desktop, the right-click menu, and the navigation pane. Let’s begin.

Start Menu Tile

Open the Start menu.

Type control. In the right pane, click the “down arrow.”

Click on the “Pin to Start” option. The Control Panel can now be viewed as a tile in the Start menu.

Start Menu Shortcut

Type shell:programs in Run Command and hit “Enter.”

You will see the folder “Windows System.”

Open it and you will find the “Control Panel” shortcut. Copy that.

Click on the “Programs” folder in the address bar and paste the shortcut into the “Programs” folder.

You will now see a shortcut to the Control Panel on the left side of the Start menu.

Taskbar Shortcut

Open the Start menu.

Type control. Press “Down Arrow” in the right pane.

Click on the “Pin to taskbar” option. In the taskbar, you can now find the shortcut to the Control Panel.

Desktop Shortcut

Type ms-settings:themes in the Run Command, then hit the Enter key.

On the right side of the screen, click “Desktop icon settings.”

Select “Control Panel” from the Desktop Icon Settings pop-up window, and then click “OK.”

You can now see a shortcut to the Control Panel on your desktop.

How to Add Control Panel to the Right-Click Menu in Windows 10

Start the Registry Editor. I suggest you take a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Extend HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Directory > Background. Right-click on the “shell” and select New > Key.

After entering Control Panel, press the Enter key on the keyboard.

Right-click on the “Control Panel” and select New > Key. Enter the name as Command and then press the “Enter” key.

Double-click on “Default” in the right pane. In the pop-up, provide the following in the “Value data” field: rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RUNDLL

Hit the OK button. Right-click on the desktop, and the Control Panel will appear in the context menu.

Note: Do you wish to remove the Control Panel from the context menu? Delete the Control Panel created above.

How Do I Add the Control Panel to the Navigation Pane

Right-click on the blank space in the navigation pane.

Click “Show all folders.”
