How to Make Only Admins can Send Messages in the WhatsApp Group

By default, any participant can send messages in the WhatsApp group.

Follow the steps below to allow only admins to send messages in the group.

Remember that you need to be a group admin to follow the steps in this guide.

Let’s see how to do this. I use Windows 11 PC, Google Pixel 4a (Android 12), and iPhone X.

Make Only Admins can Send Messages in the WhatsApp Group (Android Phone)

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp Messenger app.
  2. ​​In the “Chats” tab, long-press the group chat.
  3. Tap three vertical dots at the top. Select “Group info” and then the “Group settings” option.
  4. Tap the “Send messages” option below “Edit group info.”
  5. In the “Send messages” popup, tap the “Only admins” option. Tap OK.

Note: You can revert by choosing “All participants.” Tap OK.

Open the WhatsApp app.

In the “Chats” tab, swipe the group chat to the left. Select “More.”

In the popup, tap the “Group Info” option.

Tap the “Group Settings,” then the “Send Messages” option above “Edit Group Info.”

In the popup, tap the “Only Admins” option.

Note: To revert, choose the “All Participants” option.

Open the WhatsApp group chat and click on the group name at the top of the conversation.

Click on Group settings.
