Make Only Admins Can Send Messages in the Telegram Group
By default, any participant can send messages to the Telegram group and change its name, description, and icon.
Follow the steps below to allow only admins to do these.
Remember, once you didn’t let the members send the messages to the group, they couldn’t send media, stickers, GIFs, polls, and embed links.
Android or iPhone
Open the Telegram app.
Tap the group chat and then its name at the top.
Tap the “Pencil” icon (on Android) or “Edit” (on iPhone) at the top right. Select “Permissions.”
Disable the “Send Messages” option if you don’t want the members to send messages.
Disable “Change Chat Info” (Android) or “Change Group Info” (iPhone) beneath “Pin Messages” to let the admin only change the group name, icon, and description.

Tap the “Tick” icon at the top right (on Android) or the “Back” at the left (on iPhone), and that’s it.
Here’s how you can revert:
Follow the above steps and turn on the “Change Chat (or Group) Info” or “Send Messages” option.
If you wish, you can enable these options to let the participants send these in the group chat:
- Send Media
- Send Stickers and GIFs
- Send Polls
- Embed Links
Web or Desktop
In the Telegram Desktop app or Web, click on the group chat and hit its name at the top.
On the Desktop, hit the three vertical dots in the pop-up and select “Manage group.” On the Web, hit the “Pencil” icon in the right sidebar.
