Windows 10’s Storage Sense feature automatically deletes content in the Recycle Bin after 30 days.
This function is not enabled by default.
Follow the steps below to enable Storage Sense:
Press Windows + I to open the Settings app.
Click System > Storage.
Activate the toggle switch above.
It’s that simple. Content that has been in the Recycle Bin for more than 30 days will now be automatically deleted.
If you want to change the duration of 30 days, follow these steps:
Follow steps 1 and 2 above. Now you need to click Configure Storage Sense.
Open the second drop-down list in the Configure cleanup schedules section.
The options are Never, 1 day, 14 days, 30 days, and 60 days. Select which option suits you best.
How to Stop Automatic Deletion of Recycle Bin in Windows 10
You can stop the Recycle Bin from being automatically deleted by following one of the methods below.
Click System > Storage in the Settings app.
Turn off the toggle switch at the top.
Open the Settings app and click System > Storage.
Click Configure Storage Sense.
Select Never in the second drop-down list in the Configure cleanup schedules section.
That’s it. From now on, no automatic deletion of Recycle Bin content will take place.
