How to Change Name of Sound Input and Output Devices

To change the name of your Windows 10 sound input and output devices, follow these steps:

Start the sound settings.

For Output Devices

Select the output device you wish to rename from the drop-down list in the Output section.

Click on the “Device properties” link. 

Enter the name you want in the field above and click “Rename”.

For Input Devices

Select the input device you want to rename from the drop-down list in the “Input” section.

Click on the “Device properties” link. Enter the name you want in the field above, and then click the “Rename” button.

Alternative Method

The audio input and output devices can be renamed as follows:

Press Windows + I, click System > Sound, and click the Sound Control Panel link on the right sidebar.

Or

Right-click on the “Volume” icon in the taskbar and choose “Sounds.”

For Output Devices

Then, navigate to the Playback tab. Select the device and click Properties. Type the name into the box above and click OK.

For Input Devices

Navigate to the Recording tab and pick the device. Click Properties. Enter the name in the field at the top and click OK.
