You can change the local and Microsoft account name in Windows 10 by following these steps.

Open the Settings app by pressing Windows + I.

Hit Accounts.

Click the Manage my Microsoft account link.

Now you need to sign in to your Microsoft account.

After that, hit Your info at the top.

Click Edit name.

Enter the name. Enter the Captcha.

Press the Save button.

Restart your computer.

How to Change Local Account Name

Method #1

Open the Control Panel.

Click the User Accounts link. Click the User Accounts link.

Click Change your account name.

Unless your account is an “administrator” type, you will need to enter the administrator password.

Enter the name and click the Change Name button.

Sign out to see the change.

Method #2

Open the Run Box.

Type netplwiz and then press Enter.

Unless your account is an “administrator” type, you will need to enter the administrator password.

Select your user name in the User Accounts pop-up window.

Hit Properties.

The new name has to be entered in the “User name” field if the “Full name” field is blank. Otherwise, do one of these:

  • Enter the name in the User name field and clear the Full name field.
  • Enter the same name in both fields.

Note that you can have a different name in both fields, in which case your Full name will display on the sign-in screen and User name appears elsewhere.
