How to Enable or Disable Compact Mode in Windows 10

Windows 10 File Explorer elements have additional padding between them.

If you do not like it, you can activate the compact mode.

Choose one of two ways to complete this task.

Method #1

Open the Run by pressing Windows + R. Type control folders and then press the Enter key.

You can now see the File Explorer Options.

Navigate to the View tab.

Locate and select the option Decrease space between items (compact view).

Press the OK button.

That’s all.

If you do not want the compact mode, follow the above steps but remove the selection from the above-mentioned option.

Method #2

Open the Registry Editor. Follow these steps to complete this task: Press Windows + R to open Run. Type regedit, then press Enter. Click Yes in the pop-up.

I suggest you make a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced.

Double-click on the DWORD UseCompactMode in the right pane.

Enter 1 in the Value data field, and then click OK.

That’s all.

To disable compact mode, follow the above instructions and replace 1 with 0.
