How to Copy and Paste on WhatsApp and Telegram

In this post, you’ll see how to copy and paste a message on WhatsApp and Telegram. Let’s start.

Copy and Paste Messages on WhatsApp

Note that:

  • The below steps work for contact and group chats.
  • You can only copy the text on WhatsApp Web and Android. But you can copy text and media on the iPhone and Desktop app.

Let’s see the steps.

Android or iPhone

Here are the steps to copy messages on WhatsApp:

In the WhatsApp app, tap the chat on which you wish to copy the text.

Long-press the message. You can select multiple ones if you’re on Android.

If you’re on an iPhone, hit the “Copy” option.

If you’re using Android, hit the “Copy” icon at the top if you’ve selected multiple messages. Otherwise, tap three vertical dots on the top right and select the “Copy” option.

Notes:

  • The copied message is on the clipboard of your device.
  • Each message will have a timestamp if you copy over one message. If you don’t want a timestamp with the copied message, copy each message one by one.
  • You can’t copy multiple messages at once on WhatsApp for iPhone.

You can paste it into WhatsApp or any other app by long-pressing its text field. Select “Paste.”

In the case of media, you can only paste it on the WhatsApp compose box.

Web

Here are the steps to copy:

In WhatsApp Web, click on a conversation and select a message entirely or portions of it. Press Ctrl + C.

Paste the copied text into the text field of WhatsApp or any app you want by right-clicking on it. Hit the “Paste” option from the context menu.

Or press Ctrl + V after clicking on the text field.

Desktop

To copy the message, click on the conversation in the left sidebar of the Desktop app.

Right-click on the message you want and select “Copy.”

To copy a portion of the text message, select the part of the message you like and right-click on it. Select the “Copy selectively” option.

To paste the copied message, right-click on the text field of WhatsApp or any app and select “Paste.” Or press Ctrl + V after clicking on the text field.

If the copied message is media, press Ctrl + V after clicking on the WhatsApp compose box. Remember, it is the only place where you can paste media.

Copy and Paste a Telegram Message

Here, you’ll see the steps to copy and paste a Telegram message, which can be yours or others.

Note that:

  • The “Copy Link” option (on Android and iPhone) or “Copy Message Link” (on Desktop and Web) is for copying the link to the message. Remember that this option is available for groups and channels and unavailable for contact conversations. Also, note that the link only works for the members of the chat from which you’ve copied.
  • If you copy a message, it doesn’t have the message’s author’s name. But if you’re copying multiple messages, the copied message contains the sender and/or receiver’s name, depending on whose message you copied. The latter doesn’t apply to the Web.

Android or iPhone

In the Telegram app, hit the chat you prefer. It can be a private, group, or channel chat.

To copy a single message, tap (on Android) or long-press (on iPhone) the message. Hit “Copy.”

It is impossible to copy multiple messages at once on Telegram for iPhone. But on Android, you can do that, and here’s how: long-press the one you want. Select the remaining ones and tap the “Copy” icon.

Follow these steps to paste the copied message: Tap the text field on your iPhone. Long-press it, and tap the “Paste” option.

Web or Desktop

Open the chat in the Telegram Web or Desktop app.

To copy a message, right-click on it and select “Copy Text” (on Desktop) or “Copy” (on Web).

Like to copy multiple messages? Please select all of them and right-click on them. On the Desktop, hit the “Copy Selected as Text” option. On the Web, click on “Copy selected.”

To paste the copied message, right-click on the text field and click “Paste.”

You can copy a part of the message on the Web and Desktop. Here’s how:

Select the portion of the message you like to copy. Right-click on the selected portion and click the “Copy Selected Text” option.
