How to Create a WhatsApp or Telegram Group

In this post, you’ll see the steps to create a WhatsApp or Telegram group and the same with yourself as the only member. Let’s start.

Create a WhatsApp Group

Here are some things to note:

A WhatsApp group can have 1023 participants.
The one who creates the group is the super admin, and they can make a member admin.
Super admin can’t be removed from the group or dismissed as admin by any admin in the group.

Let’s see the steps to create a WhatsApp group.

iPhone

Open the WhatsApp app and ensure you’re in the “Chats” tab.

Tap “New Group” at the top right or hit the “New Chat” icon at the top right and select “New Group.”

Choose the contacts you prefer.

Hit “Next” at the top right and provide the group subject (in other words, group name).

Providing the group icon is optional; configure the “Disappearing Messages” if you wish.

Hit the “Create” option at the top right.

Android

In the WhatsApp app, hit the three vertical dots at the top right or the “New chat” icon at the bottom right of the “Chats” tab.

Hit the “New group” option, and you can see the list of your WhatsApp contacts.

Choose the ones you prefer and hit the “Arrow” icon at the bottom right.

You now need to provide the group name, and the icon for the group is optional. If you wish, you can configure the disappearing messages setting.

Hit the “Tick” icon, and that’s all.

Web

In the WhatsApp Web, click the icon beside the three vertical dots in the left sidebar or press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + N.

Click “New group” and choose the contacts you want.

Hit the “Arrow” icon and provide the group subject (Mandatory) and icon. If you like, configure the disappearing messages too.

Hit the “Tick” icon.

Desktop

Open the WhatsApp Desktop app.

Hit the “New chat” icon beside three horizontal dots in the left sidebar or press Ctrl + Shift + N.

Click “New group” and select the contacts you wish.

Hit the “Next” button and provide the group icon (optional) and name. Also, customize the disappearing messages if you prefer.

Click on the “Create” button.

Create a Telegram Group

You can create a group on Telegram Web, Desktop, and app (Android and iPhone). Let’s see how.

Here are some essential points to note before proceeding with the steps:

In a group, you can add up to 200000 participants.

In Telegram, the one who creates the group is the owner.

Let’s see the steps.

Android

In the Telegram app, hit the three horizontal lines at the top left or the “New chat” icon at the bottom right.

Select “New Group.”

Select the Telegram contacts you wish to add.

Hit the “Arrow” icon at the bottom.

You need to provide the icon (optional) and name. If you wish, you can also set the “Auto-Delete Messages.”

Hit the “Tick” icon at the bottom.

iPhone

Open the Telegram app and hit the “New chat” icon in the “Chats” tab.

Select “New Group” and choose the one you want to add to the group.

Hit Next at the top right and provide the group name. Providing the group icon and setting the “Auto-Delete Messages” is optional.

Tap “Create” at the top right, and that’s it.

Desktop

In the Telegram Desktop app, click the three horizontal lines at the top left and select “New Group.”

Provide the group name and icon (which is not mandatory) in the pop-up.

Hit the three vertical dots in the pop-up and “Auto-Delete” if you wish to set up the latter.

Hit “Next.” Select the people you want and click “Create.”

Web

In the Telegram Web, hover your mouse over the left sidebar, hit the “New Message” icon, and “New Group.”

Select the persons you want and hit the Arrow icon at the bottom.

Give the name for the group and icon (which is not mandatory). Hit the “Arrow” icon.

Create a Group on WhatsApp or Telegram with Only You as a Member

Note that since you’re creating a group, you’re a member of the group you create.

But for a group, you need two members. In other words, you need to choose one of your WhatsApp or Telegram contact as the member of the group whom you need to remove from the group later.

I suggest you inform the contact about this before following the steps.

Steps

Follow the steps above to create a group but choose only one contact.

Let’s see the steps to remove the group member on WhatsApp (Android, iPhone, Web, and Desktop).

Open the group and hit its name at the top.

On Android or iPhone, hit the group member name you want to remove.

On iPhone, in the pop-up, beneath the “Make Group Admin,” you can see “Remove from Group.” Hit it. In the confirmation pop-up, hit “Remove.”

On Android, select the “Remove (contact name)” option. Hit “OK” in the pop-up.

On the Web, in the right sidebar, find and hover over the member name. Hit the “Down arrow” and select “Remove.” In the pop-up, click “Remove.”

On the Desktop, select “Participants” and right-click on the participant name. Select “Remove from group” and hit “Yes.”

Now the group has only one member, and that’s you.
