How to Change Default Download Location on Edge

Edge automatically saves your downloads in the default download directory.

On Edge, the default download location is the “Downloads” folder in C: > Users > Username.

Please see the steps to change the Microsoft Edge default download location. I’m using Windows 11 PC.

Here are the steps:

Launch the Microsoft Edge browser.

Click on the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner of the screen.

Select “Settings.”

On the left sidebar, click “Downloads.”

Click the “Change” button in the “Downloads” section.

Click the “Select Folder” button after choosing the desired folder in the popup.

How to Change Edge Default Download Location using Registry Editor

Open Registry Editor. I suggest you take the Registry backup before proceeding.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > User Shell Folders.

Double-click {374DE290-123F-4565-9164-39C4925E467B} on the right pane.

In the Value data field, remove the existing location and provide the one you want.

Hit the OK button.

Restart your PC, and that’s all.

Note: If you want to revert, provide the “Downloads” folder’s location in the “Value data” field.

How to Change Default Download Location on Edge using File Explorer

Go to the Downloads folder on your Windows 11 PC.

Right-click on the blank space in the folder.

Select Properties.

Navigate to the Location tab in the popup.

Remove the existing one and provide the address of the location you want.

Hit the OK button, and you’ll see a popup that asks whether you want to move the content from the old location to the new one.

Hit Yes or No as per your wish, and that’s all.
