How to Set Default Sound Input and Output Devices

To set the default sound input and output devices in Windows 10, follow these steps:

Open the sound settings.

For Default Sound Output Devices

Select the output device you wish to set as the default from the drop-down list in the “Output” section.

For Default Sound Input Devices

Choose the input device you want to set as the default from the drop-down list in the “Input” section.

Alternative Method

You can set the default audio input and output devices by following these steps:

Right-click on the “Volume” icon in the taskbar and choose “Sounds.”

For Output Devices

Go to the Playback tab and choose the device you wish to use.

Press the “Set Default” button. If you do this, the selected device becomes the default device and default communication device.

If you want to set the selected device as one of the two, click the “Down” arrow in the button, and you will find the following options: “Default Device” and “Default Communication Device.” Click on the desired one.

For Input Devices

Select your desired device under the Recording tab.

Press the “Set Default” button. If you do this, the selected device becomes the default device and default communication device.
