How to Add or Delete Contact on Telegram
In this post, you’ll see the steps to delete or add a contact in Telegram.
Also, you’ll view the steps to disable contacts sync and delete synced contacts on Telegram. Let’s begin.
Delete a Telegram Contact
Deleting a contact on your device will not remove it from your Telegram app until you delete synced contacts.
Removing a contact from your Telegram app will not delete it from your device. And this deletion is temporary, and that contact appears on your app again.
To remove the contact permanently, you need to do this after deleting it: Disable contacts sync on Telegram or remove that contact from your device.
Let’s see how to remove a contact from Telegram.
Note: Removing a contact will not remove its conversation.
iPhone
Launch the Telegram app and tap the “Contacts” tab. Hit the contact you want and tap the name at the top.
Tap the “Edit” at the top right and select “Delete Contact.”
In the pop-up, tap “Delete Contact,” and that’s all.
Android
Open the Telegram app and tap the three horizontal lines at the top left.
Select “Contacts” and find the contact you want to remove. You can tap the “Search” icon at the top right and use the search box if you wish.
Hit the contact and tap the name at the top. Tap the three vertical dots at the top right and select “Delete contact.”
In the pop-up, hit “Delete.”

Web or Desktop
Open the Telegram Web and hit the three horizontal lines at the top left of the left sidebar.
Select “Contacts” and click the one you prefer.
Click the name at the top. On the Web, click the “Pencil” icon in the top right of the right sidebar.
Hit “Delete contact.”
On the Web, click “Delete Contact” from the pop-up. On the Desktop, hit “Delete.”
Disable Contacts Sync and Delete Synced Contacts on Telegram
You can do this task on Android and iPhone only. Let’s see the steps.
Launch the Telegram app.
On Android, tap the three horizontal lines at the top left. Select “Settings” and “Privacy and Security.”
On iPhone, hit the “Settings” tab at the bottom. Hit “Privacy and Security” and “Data Settings” at the bottom.
In the “Contacts” section, you can see “Sync Contacts.” Please turn it off to disable contacts syncing.
To delete the synced contacts, hit “Delete Synced Contacts,” and you can see this message in the pop-up:
This will remove your contacts from the Telegram servers. If Sync Contacts is enabled, your current phonebook will be re-synced.
Tap “Delete” in the pop-up.
That’s all. To enable contacts syncing, turn on “Sync Contacts.”
Add Contact to Telegram
Android
Open the Telegram app and hit the three vertical lines at the top left.
Select “Contacts” and tap the icon at the bottom right.
Provide now the first name, country code, and number. The last name is optional.
Hit the “Tick” icon at the top right.
iPhone
Launch the Telegram app and hit the “Contacts” tab.
Hit the “+” icon at the top right.
Provide the name (first name mandatory and last name optional), country code, and number. Hit “Create” at the top right.
Desktop or Web
In the Telegram Desktop app or Web, hit the three horizontal lines at the top left.
Select “Contacts.” On the Desktop, click “Add Contact” at the bottom left. On the Web, hit the icon at the bottom right.
Provide the first name, country code, and number. The last name is an optional one.
On the Desktop, hit “Create” at the bottom. On the Web, click “Done.”
Add Your Contact on Telegram via QR Code
Follow these steps to let others add your contact on Telegram via the QR code. The below applies to Android and iPhone only.
On Telegram for iPhone, hit the “Settings” tab at the bottom and tap the “QR code” icon at the top left.
On Telegram for Android, hit the three vertical lines at the top left and select “Settings.” You can see the “QR code” icon beside the “Search” icon. Hit it.
You can view the QR code and share it using the “Share QR Code” button at the bottom.
Or you can ask the person to scan the code.
At the bottom, you can also see the backgrounds for the QR code. Pick the one you prefer. You can also choose between light or dark mode with the icon at the bottom.
