How to Enable Startup Sound in Windows 10

Windows 10 does not have a startup sound by default.

If you wish, you can enable it. Here’s how you do it:

Right-click on the Volume icon in the notification area.

Hit Sounds.

In the Sound pop-up, you’re in the Sounds tab.

Select Play Windows Startup sound.

Hit the OK button.

That’s all.

Note: You must uncheck it to disable startup sound.

Alternative methods are as follows:

Method #1

Open local group policy editor.

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon.

Double-click Turn off Windows Startup sound in the right pane.

Select Disabled.

Hit the OK button.

Note: To disable, follow the steps above but select Enabled or Not Configured.

Method #2

Open the Registry Editor. Before getting started, I would recommend taking a backup of the Registry.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Authentication > LogonUI > BootAnimation.

You can see DisableStartupSound in the right pane. Double-click it.

Provide 0 (to enable) or 1 (to disable) in the Value data field of the pop-up.

Hit the OK button.

That’s all.
