How to Change, Hide or Show File Extension in Android

Written by Thirumalraj

In this post, you will see:

Let’s start.

How to Hide or Show File Extensions (Android)

The Files app that comes with the Android device always displays file extensions. It cannot hide file extensions.

The same applies to Mi File Manager, Solid Explorer, and File Explorer Root Browser.

Show or Hide File Extensions in Astro (Android)

You can hide or display file extensions in Astro for individual or all folders.

Remember that all folders setting doesn’t override the single folder setting.

With that said, let’s see both.

All Folders

Tap the three vertical lines at the top left.

Click on “Settings” in the menu.

Tap the “Set Default View Settings” option.

Check (to show) or uncheck (to hide) “Show file extensions.”

Note: If the above settings do not work in the folder, follow the steps above (1 to 3) and hit the “Clear” button beside “Clear Directory Options.” Remember that this will clear custom directory settings.

Single Folder

Open the folder.

Tap the three vertical dots at the top right.

Click on the “View Settings” option in the menu.

Navigate to the “Advanced” tab.

Check (to show) or uncheck (to hide) the “Show file extensions” option.

Press the “OK” button at the bottom.

How to Change the Android File Extension

Open the Files app and tap “Browse” if you are not yet in it.

Scroll down and press “Internal Storage” or your SD card.

Now find the file for which you want to change the extension.

Press this file long and press the three vertical dots at the top.

Tap “Rename,” and in the popup, you’ll see the file name, the dot, and the extension.

Remove the existing extension and then enter the desired extension.

Press the “OK” button and tap “Rename.”
