How to Remove Frequently Contacted in WhatsApp (Android and iPhone)

On the “Forward to” screen (the screen you see while forwarding), you’ll notice:

  • The “My status” option
  • “Frequently contacted” section
  • The “Recent chats” section
  • The “Other contacts” section contains all your WhatsApp contacts, except the ones in the “Recent chats” and “Frequently contacted.” You can only find this on Android.

In this post, you’ll see how to delete frequently contacted and recent chats on WhatsApp. I use Android and iPhone here. Let’s start.

Remove Frequently Contacted in WhatsApp

Let’s see two ways to delete “Frequently contacted” on WhatsApp. Pick the method you prefer.

Method #1

Clearing the chat (contact or group) removes it from the “Frequently contacted” list. However, it will appear in the “Recent chats” section. It is the case for both Android and iPhone.

Here’s how you can clear a chat on an Android phone:

Launch the WhatsApp Messenger app.

Open the conversation (contact or group) you want.

Tap the three vertical dots at the top. Select More.

  • Save

Hit “Clear chat.”

You’ll now see a pop-up that has these options:

  • The “Also delete media received in this chat from the device gallery” option is selected by default. Leave it, and the media of the chat gets deleted. Or deselect the option.
  • “Delete starred messages” option (you’ll only see this if the chat has a starred message. Select it if you want to delete the starred message from the conversation.)

Tap “Clear Chat,” and that’s it.

Here’s how you can clear a chat on iPhone:

Open WhatsApp and hit the “Chats” tab at the bottom if you’re not in it.

Swipe the conversation (contact or group) to the left. Hit More > Clear Chat.

You’ll see a pop-up with the following options:

  • Delete All Except Starred – this one clears all chat messages except the starred ones. Remember, you’ll only see this option if the conversation has a starred message.
  • Delete All Messages – this one will clear all the messages from the chat.

Hit the one you prefer. That’s it.

Method #2

Deleting the contact chat removes it from the “Frequently contacted” list. It is the case for the iPhone. But with Android, that contact will appear in the “Other contacts” section.

Also, note that it’ll move to the “Recent chats” section when you exit the group chat, the same for Android and iPhone.

Here’s how you can delete a chat on Android:

Open the WhatsApp app. Select the conversation you want to remove.

Hit the “Trash can” icon. Select the “Also delete media received in this chat from the device gallery” option in the pop-up to remove conversation media.

Tap the “Delete Chat” option in the pop-up.

That’s it.

Here’s how to delete a chat on WhatsApp for iPhone:

Note: Remember, the steps below will also delete the chat’s media.

Open WhatsApp and ensure you’re in the Chats tab. Long press the conversation you like to remove, and you can see the Delete Chat option.

Hit it and tap Delete Chat.

Delete Recent Chats on WhatsApp

Here’s how to delete “Recent chats” on WhatsApp:

Removing contact conversation removes it from the “Recent chats.” It is the case for the iPhone. But with Android, that contact will appear in the “Other contacts” section.

For the group chat, exiting the group and deleting the conversation removes it from the “Recent chats” section, which is the case for Android and iPhone.

That’s all.
