How to Remove Frequently Contacted in WhatsApp

In this post, you’ll see how to delete frequently contacted and recent chats on WhatsApp. Let’s start.

Remove Frequently Contacted in WhatsApp

On the “Forward to” screen (the screen you see while forwarding), you’ll notice:

  • “Frequently contacted” section
  • The “Recent chats” section
  • The “Other contacts” section contains all your WhatsApp contacts, except the ones in the “Recent chats” and “Frequently contacted.” You can only find this on Android.

Let’s see two ways to do this task. Pick the method you prefer.

Method #1

Clearing the chat (contact or group) removes it from the “Frequently contacted” list. However, it will appear in the “Recent chats” section. It is the case for both Android and iPhone.

Here’s how you can clear a chat on an Android phone:

Launch the WhatsApp app and open the conversation you want.

Tap the three vertical dots at the top and select “More.”

Hit “Clear chat.”

You’ll now see a pop-up that has these options:

  • The “Also delete media received in this chat from the device gallery” option is selected by default. Leave it, and the media of the chat gets deleted. Or deselect the option.
  • “Delete starred messages” option (You’ll only see this if the chat has a starred message. Select it if you want to delete them from the conversation.)

Tap “Clear Chat.”

Here’s how you can clear a chat on iPhone:

In WhatsApp, hit the “Chats” tab if you’re not in it. Swipe the conversation to the left.

Hit More > Clear Chat.

You’ll see these options:

  • Delete All Except Starred – this one clears all chat messages except the starred ones. Remember, you’ll only see this option if the conversation has a starred message.
  • Delete All Messages – this one will clear all the messages from the chat.

Hit the one you prefer.

Method #2

Deleting the contact chat removes it from the “Frequently contacted” list. It is the case for the iPhone. But with Android, that contact will appear in the “Other contacts” section.

Also, note that it’ll move to the “Recent chats” section when you exit the group chat, the same for Android and iPhone.

Follow these steps to delete a chat on Android:

Open the WhatsApp app and select the conversation you want to remove.

Hit the “Trash can” icon. Select the “Also delete media received in this chat from the device gallery” option in the pop-up to remove conversation media.

Tap the “Delete Chat” option in the pop-up.

Note: Remember, the steps below will also delete the chat’s media.

In WhatsApp, ensure you’re in the “Chats” tab. Long-press the conversation and hit the “Delete Chat.” Tap “Delete Chat.”

Delete Recent Chats on WhatsApp

Removing contact conversation removes it from the “Recent chats.” It is the case for the iPhone. But with Android, that contact will appear in the “Other contacts” section.

For the group chat, exiting the group and deleting the conversation removes it from the “Recent chats” section, which is the case for Android and iPhone.
