How to Hide Friends List on Facebook (and More)
In this post, you’ll see the steps to hide your FB friends list and set who can send you friend requests.

Hide Friends List and Set Who Can Send You Friend Requests on Facebook
Note that by default, your friend list on Facebook is “Public.” It means that anyone can see it.
PC
To hide your friend list, follow these steps:
Sign in to your Facebook account and hit your profile name in the left sidebar.
Click on “Friends.” You’ll see a three horizontal dots button beside the “Find Friends.” Click on it and the “Edit privacy” option.
You’ll see an “Edit privacy” pop-up, where you’ll see a “Friends list” and beside them a button. Hit that button. You’ll see these options:
- Public – Choose this one to let anyone view your friend list.
- Friends – Choose this one to allow only your friends to view your friend list.
- Friends except – If you select this one, all your friends view your friend list except the ones you choose.
- Specific friends – Select this one to let only the chosen friends see your friends list.
- Only me – No one except you can see your friend list if you pick this option.
Select the one you prefer and hit the Done button. You must choose “Only me” if you don’t want others to see it.
To set who can send you friend requests, follow these steps:
Sign in to Facebook and hit your profile picture in the top right corner.
Click Settings and privacy > Settings.
On the left sidebar, click “Privacy.”
Find the “How people can find and contact you” section. Click “Edit” beside “Who can send you friend requests?”
Open the drop-down list, and you’ll see these options: Everyone and Friends of friends. Select the one you prefer.

Android or iPhone
In the Facebook app, tap the “Menu.”
Hit Settings & privacy > Settings > Profile settings > Privacy.
Tap “Who can send you friend requests.”
These two options are now available to you:
- Everyone – Anyone on FB can send you a request.
- Friends of friends – Friends of your FB friends can send you requests.
Pick the one you prefer, and that’s all.
You’ll see the “Who can see your friends list?” option, and you can see this message:
Remember, your friends control who can see their friendships on their own Timelines. If people can see your friendship on another timeline, they’ll be able to see it in News Feed, search and other places on Facebook. If you set this to Only me, only you will be able to see your full friends list on your timeline. Other people will see only mutual friends.

Tap the option. To see all options, tap “(See) More.” Here are all the options:


- Public – Anyone can view your friend list.
- Friends – Only your friends can view your friend list.
- Friends except – All your friends can view your friend list except the ones you choose.
- Specific friends – Only the friends selected by you can see your friends list.
- Only me – Only you see your friend list.
Choose the one you prefer. To hide your friend list from everyone’s view except yours, choose “Only me.”
Turn Off Facebook Friend Suggestions
The below steps apply to Android, iPhone, and PC.
On PC, log in to your FB account and click on your profile picture at the top right. On Android or iPhone, open the Facebook app and hit the “Menu.”
Hit Settings & privacy > Settings.
On Android or iPhone, tap “Profile settings” and “Notification settings.” On PC, click “Notifications” on the left sidebar.
Hit “People You May Know.”
If you don’t want a specific one (Push, SMS, or Email), turn off the toggle switch beside it.
To completely turn off friend suggestions, disable the toggle switch beside the “Allow notifications on Facebook.” On Android or iPhone, hit “Turn Off” on the pop-up.

If you turn this off, all the others will also be turned off.

Note that you can revert anytime by turning on the toggle switch.
