How to Remove Footnote and Footer in Google Docs

Here, I use Android, Windows 10 PC, and iPhone. Let’s get started.

PC

Sign in to Google Docs. Open the document you want. Click “Insert” at the top and then move the mouse over “Headers & footers.”

You will find the option “Footer.” Click on it and then enter the desired text. Hit the body of the document.

To delete footer entirely from document

Double click on the footer of the first page. Click on the “Options” drop-down list and then “Remove footer.”

Note: Follow the steps above on the second page if the first page footer is empty.

Android or iPhone

Open the Google Docs app and then the document you want. Click on the “Pencil” icon below.

Click on the three vertical or horizontal dots at the top and activate the “Print layout.”

Click on the bottom of the page and enter the desired text. Hit the body of the document.

To delete footer entirely from document

Activate the “Print layout” option if you have not already done so. Hit the footer.

Select the text and press the “Backspace” key on your keyboard. Hit the body of the document.

Add and Remove Footnotes in Google Docs

PC

Log into Google Docs and open the document. Place the cursor where you want to add a footnote.

Click Insert > Footnote (between “Horizontal line” and “Special characters”). Enter your footnote and press the body of the document.

Alternative method: You can do the same task by following the steps above, but instead of step 3, press CTRL + Alt + F.

Edit Footnote: Click on the footnote you want to edit. Please change it to your liking. Click on the body of the document.

Delete Footnote: Remove the superscript number of the footnote in the document’s body.

Android or iPhone

Open the document in the Google Docs app. Click on the “Pencil” icon below. Place the cursor where you want to insert a footnote.

Tap + > Footnote. Enter your footnote and press the body of the document.

Edit Footnote: Click on the footnote you want to edit, change your preference, and hit the document’s body.

Delete Footnote: Remove the superscript number of the footnote in the document’s body.

How to Add and Remove Page Numbers in Google Docs

PC

Sign in to Google Docs. Open the document for which you want to add the page numbers.

Click on “Insert” at the top and move the mouse over “Page numbers.” Click on the desired format.

Note: You can also see “More options” here. You can use this one for a customized version of the page numbers. “Page count” adds the total page number of the document to the place where the cursor is placed.

To remove page numbers from the document

Click on the page number and then delete this page number. Click on the body of the document.

Note: When you add or remove the page(s) in the document, the page numbers are automatically changed accordingly.

Android or iPhone

Open the Google Docs app. Open the document to which you want to insert page numbers. Tap the “Pencil” icon at the bottom.

Click on the “+” icon at the top. In the “Insert” section, you’ll find “Page number.” Tap on it, and you’ll see four formats. Choose the one you prefer.

To delete page numbers

Tap the page number. Delete that page number and then tap the body of the document.

Note: When you add or remove the page(s) in the document, the page numbers are automatically changed accordingly.

PC

Open the Google Docs document you want. Click “Insert” at the top and move the mouse over “Headers & footers.”

You’ll see the option “Header.” Click on it. Enter the desired header text and then click on the document’s body.

To delete header entirely from document

Double-click the header on the first page. Click on the Options drop-down list. Click Remove header.

Note: Follow the steps above on the second page if the first page header is empty.

Headers & footers option

Click Format > Headers & footers. Here you can set the margins for the header and footer. You can also find these two options:

Different first page

Leave this option untouched if you want the same header and footer for all pages. Select this option if you want a header and footer for the first page and another one for the remaining pages.

If you select the option “Different first page,” the entered text will be removed from the header and footer of the first page, and the text will remain in the header and footer of the remaining pages.

If desired, enter the text in the header and footer of the first page. The header and footer of the remaining pages remain unaffected.

Different odd & even

Select this option if you want a different header and footer for odd and even pages.

Android or iPhone

Open the Google Docs app. Open the desired document and click on the “pencil” icon at the bottom.

Click on the three vertical or horizontal dots at the top and activate the “Print layout.”

Tap on the top of the page and enter the text you want. Hit the body of the document.

To get rid of header entirely from document

Activate the “Print layout” option if you have not already done so. Tap the header.

Select the text and press the “Backspace” key on your keyboard. Press the body of the document.
