How to Add Hibernate Option in Windows 10

In this post, you’ll see the steps to add the hibernate option and fix the missing hibernate option.

I’m using Windows 10 here. Let’s get started.

Add Hibernate Option

If you click on the Power icon in the Start menu, you will not see the “Hibernate” option.

If you want this option, then you can add it.

When you add the option, you’ll see the Hibernate option in the Shut Down Windows pop-up, which you can see when you press Alt + F4, Power user menu and Power menu.

You can do this task in three ways. Pick the one you like.

Method #1

Open the Run command. Type powercfg.cpl and then press the Enter key.

Hit the “Choose what the power buttons do” link on the left sidebar. You can find the link above “Choose what closing the lid does.”

Hit “Change settings that are currently unavailable.”

Check the Hibernate option. You can find this one between Sleep and Lock.

Hit the Save changes button at the bottom.

That’s all.

Note that you can remove this option by following the steps above and unselecting the Hibernate option.

Method #2

Type gpedit.msc in the Run Box and then hit the Enter key.

Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer.

Double-click on “Show hibernate in the power options menu.”

Select Enabled and click OK.

That’s all.

Note: You can remove this option by following the steps above and selecting Disabled.

Method #3

Open the Registry Editor. I suggest that you back up the Registry before proceeding.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > FlyoutMenuSettings.

Double-click the “ShowHibernateOption” and provide 1 in the Value data field.

Hit the OK button.

That’s all.

Note that you can remove this option and all you need to do is change the value from 1 to 0.

Fix Missing Hibernate Option

If you find that the Hibernate option is missing in the Power Options, then you can use the below steps to fix that.

Open the elevated Command Prompt.

Type the following command and press the Enter key: powercfg /hibernate on

The above command will turn on hibernate.

Now, type in the following command and then press the Enter key: powercfg /h /type full

The above command will set the hiberfile type to full.

Restart your computer.

That’s all. You can now see the Hibernate option in the Power Options.
