In this post, you’ll see steps to disable Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Google, and Instagram in-app browsers. Let’s start.
How to Disable Twitter In-App Browser
On Twitter for Android, every link you click opens in an in-app browser by default.
If you prefer the link to open in your default browser instead of the in-app browser, then you need to disable Twitter’s in-app browser, and here are the steps:
Open the Twitter app on your Android device.
Hit your profile picture in the top left corner, then tap Settings and privacy > Display and sound.
In the “Web browser” section, you will see the option “Use in-app browser.” Please disable it.
That’s it. The Twitter In-App browser was successfully disabled, and from now on, the links will open in your default browser.
If you prefer to enable Twitter in-app browser, follow the steps above. Instead of disabling it, select it.
By default, Twitter for iPhone opens the link in an in-app browser. Also, note that there is no option to disable the in-app browser on Twitter for iPhone.
If you want to open the link in Safari, do the following:
Open the link, and see the “Safari” icon at the bottom right. Press on it, and the link will open on Safari.
Note that you must do this for every link you want to open.
How to Disable Facebook In-App Browser
By default, Facebook for Android opens the link in an in-app browser.
Suppose you want to open the link in your default browser instead of Facebook’s mobile browser. In that case, you must turn off Facebook’s in-app browser.
Here’s how to disable Facebook’s in-app browser:
Open the Facebook app.
Tap the Menu (three horizontal lines) at the top.
Tap Settings & Privacy > Settings.
Hit “Media” in the Preferences section.
You’ll now see the “Links open externally” option beneath “Sounds in the app.” Please enable it.
That’s it. Facebook’s in-app browser has been successfully disabled, and from now on, the link will open in your default browser.
If you want to enable Facebook’s in-app browser, follow the steps above but disable it instead of allowing it.
Note: There’s no option to disable the Facebook in-app browser on your iPhone. However, you can open the link in your default browser after opening it in the Facebook in-app browser. Here’s how: Tap the three horizontal dots at the bottom right and then hit “Open in Browser.”
How to Disable Gmail In-App Browser
Open the Gmail app.
Hit the three horizontal lines at the top right.
Tap Settings > Default apps.
In the Browser section, select the one you prefer except for Safari.
Note: Gmail for Android does not have an in-app browser.
How to disable the Google In-App browser
Open the Google app.
Hit “More” at the bottom.
Tap Settings > General.
Disable the “Open web pages in the app” option.
If you want to open a web page in the Google app, follow the steps above, but instead of disabling it, enable it.
Note: There’s no option on Google for iPhone to turn off the in-app browser. However, you can open the link in the browser after opening it in the Google In-app browser. Here’s how: Tap the “Share” icon at the bottom. You can now see both options: “Open in Safari” and “Open in Chrome.” Hit the one you prefer.
Instagram In-app Browser
Instagram doesn’t have the option to turn off its in-app browser.
However, you can open the link in your browser after you open it in an in-app browser, and here’s how:
Tap the three vertical dots at the top.
Click on the “Open with” option. You can now see the browsers as options. Select the one you want.
The case of Android applies to the iPhone.
To open the link in your browser after opening it in an in-app browser:
Click the “Share” icon at the bottom and tap “Open in Safari.”
Remember that you can open it from here, if you want, in another browser.
