How to Lock a Windows 10 PC

Here you will find a variety of ways on how to lock your Windows 10 computer. You will also see how to create a shortcut for it.

Let’s start with the former.

Method #1

Press Windows + L simultaneously.

Method #2

The Windows security screen appears when you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Hit Lock in there.

Method #3

Open the Start menu.

Hit the Account icon on the left side.

Click on Lock.

Method #4

You can set your PC to automatically lock after a specified period of inactivity by using the “Screen Saver Settings.” For steps, check out the end of this post.

Method #5

Open Command Prompt.

Type in the following command and then hit the Enter key. Here’s the command: rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation

How to Create a Shortcut to Lock Your PC

You can create a shortcut on your desktop or File Explorer to lock the Windows 10 PC.

Right-click on a blank area of the desktop or File Explorer.

Select New > Shortcut.

Type rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation and then hit the Next button.

If you don’t like the suggested shortcut name, provide the name  you prefer. Click the Finish button.
