How to Change Default Font in Notepad++ and Notepad

In this post, you’ll learn how to change the default font of Notepad++ and Notepad. In this instance, I’m using a Windows 10 PC. Let’s get started.

How to Change the Windows 10 Notepad Default Font, Size, Style, and Script

The default font in Notepad is “Consolas.” The default style is “regular.” The default font size is “11,” and the default script is “Western.”

Here’s how to change them.

Open the Notepad. The following steps will help you do this: Press Windows + R, then type notepad and hit Enter.

Click on “Format.”

Press “Font.”

In the pop-up window, you’ll find a list of fonts under “Font.”

Choose the one you prefer.

From here, you can also change the default font size, script, and style.

Press the “OK” button.

That’s it.

Change Default Notepad++ Font and its Size

The following steps explain how to change the default font and font size in Notepad++.


Open Notepad++.

Hit Settings at the top.

Hit Style Configurator.

Make sure Global Styles is selected in Language in the pop-up.

Make sure Global override is selected in Style.

Choose the font you prefer from the drop-down list beside the Font name in the Font Style section.

If you want the font bold, italic or underlined, select the appropriate options.

Choose the font size you prefer from the drop-down list beside Font size.

Choose Enable global font if you changed the font and Enable global font size if you changed the font size.

You need to select the appropriate options for bold, italic and underline:

  • Enable global bold font style
  • Enable global italic font style
  • Enable global underline font style

Hit Save & Close button.
