How to Change the Default Font in Notepad and Notepad++

Written by Thirumalraj

You can change the default font in both Windows Notepad and Notepad++. Let’s begin with the former. I use Windows 11 PC.

Change Windows 11 Notepad Default Font, Size, and Style

The Windows Notepad default font name is “Lucida Console.” The default style is “Regular,” and the default font size is “12.”

Here’s how to change them:

Open Microsoft Notepad.

Click on “Edit” and select “Font.”

Under “Font,” you will see a drop-down list for the font family, size and style.

Open the drop-down list you want and make changes as per your wish.

Note that you can see the preview beneath the Size drop-down list.

That’s it.

Notes:

  • You can also see this “Font” by clicking on the Gear icon in the top right.
  • You can’t make the text bold, italic, and underline in Notepad.

Change Notepad++ Default Font and its Size

The following are the steps to change the default Notepad++ font size and font:

Open Notepad++ and hit Settings at the top.

Hit Style Configurator. Select Global Styles in Language in the popup and Global override in “Style.”

Choose the font you prefer from the drop-down list beside the Font name in the Font Style section. Select the appropriate options if you want bold, italic, or underlined font.

Choose the font size you prefer from the drop-down list beside Font size.

Choose Enable global font if you’ve changed the font and Enable global font size if you’ve changed the font size.

You need to select the appropriate options for bold, italic, and underline:

  • Enable global bold font style
  • Enable global italic font style
  • Enable global underline font style

Hit Save & Close button, and that’s all.

Thanks for reading.
