How to Open the Action Center and What to Do if it Doesn’t Open

In this post, you’ll find different ways to open the action center in Windows 10. 

You’ll also see what to do if the action center doesn’t open. Let’s start with the former.

Method #1

Press Windows + A simultaneously.

Method #2

At the right end of the taskbar, click the action center icon. This one is between “time and date” and “Show desktop.”

Alternatively, you can right-click on the action center icon and select Open action center.

How to Fix the Action Center Not Opening Issue

Method #1

Restart the File Explorer.

Method #2

Follow the methods (action center icon, Registry Editor and local group policy editor) in this guide to enable the action center.

Manually check for Windows updates.

Method #4

Clean up your C drive using the Disk Cleanup utility.

Method #5

Run the chkdsk on your C drive.

Method #6

Run the SFC and DISM scans on your computer.

Note: This will change the PC theme to a high contrast theme and remove all tiles from the Start menu.

Open Run. Type %localappdata%\microsoft\windows and then hit the Enter key.

Make your PC shows hidden files and folders.

Find the usrClass.dat file. Rename it to usrClass.old.dat.

Restart your PC.

Re-registering the action center can fix this problem, so follow these steps to do that:

Open elevated PowerShell.

Press Enter after typing the following command. 

Here’s the command: Get-AppxPackage | % { Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppxManifest.xml” -verbose }
