How to Open or Reset the Windows Security App

Method #1

Open the Start menu. Click on “Windows Security” under the “W” section.

Launch Run. Type windowsdefender: and then press “Enter.”

The above command can be used in the address toolbar, the address bar of the File Explorer, and the Task Manager (click File > Run new task to use the command).

You will see the “Windows Security notification icon” in the notification area. Click on it.

Note: If you do not see the icon there, it is under “Show hidden icons.” Press the “Up arrow” button in the notification area and you should be able to see it now.

Go to Settings, then click “Update & Security,” then “Windows Security.” Click on “Open Windows Security.”

Method #5

Open the Start menu. The Windows Security app can be found in the search results when you enter security. Click on it.

How to Create a Windows Security Shortcut

Here are the steps to create a Windows Security shortcut on your Windows 10 desktop or in File Explorer.

Right-click on an empty area on your File Explorer or desktop.

Click “New” and then “Shortcut.”

In the “Create Shortcut” pop-up, type windowsdefender:. Hit the “Next” button.

Enter a new name for the shortcut if you don’t like the suggested one. Click the “Finish” button.

How to Reset Windows Security

Open the Start menu.

You will see the Windows Security app after entering security.

Right-click on it and choose “App settings.”

Find the “Reset” button and press it.

In the confirmation popup, click “Reset”.
