How to Change WhatsApp Profile Picture (and Create Avatar)

In this post, you’ll see the steps to set, change or delete the profile picture on your WhatsApp account.

Also, you’ll see how to create, use and delete an avatar on WhatsApp. Let’s start.

Set or Change WhatsApp Profile Picture

Android

To set or change a profile picture, open WhatsApp and hit the three vertical dots at the top right.

Select “Settings” and hit your name at the top.

Hit the “Camera” icon at the top, and you can see these three options:

  • Save
  • Avatar – This is for setting the avatar as your DP.
  • Camera – This is for taking a picture and setting it as a DP (Display Picture).
  • Gallery – This is for choosing an image and setting it as DP.

Choose any of the above options. I prefer the “Gallery” here.

After choosing the picture, bring the part of the image you want as DP into the square. Use the handles or rotate option if you wish.

Hit “Done” at the bottom right, and that’s it.

Also, note that you can tap the DP to view it and the “Trash can” icon, which removes the profile photo. Hit it and select “Remove” from the popup.

The first is for setting the avatar as your profile picture. The second is for taking a photo and setting it as a DP, and the latter is for choosing a photo as DP.

Choose one of the above. I use the “Take Photo” here.

After taking a photograph, hit “Use Photo” at the bottom right. Move the picture and bring the part you want to be the profile picture in the circle.

Hit “Done” at the bottom right.

To change the profile picture, tap your profile picture. Tap the “Edit” option at the top right, and you can view these options:

To set DP, hit the “Account” icon in the left sidebar of the WhatsApp Web.

Click “Add Profile Photo,” and you can see these two options:

  • Upload Photo – This is for choosing a photo and setting it as DP.

Please select the one you prefer, and I chose the latter here.

Select the image and click on the “Open” button.

Bring the part of the image you want as DP into the circle and use the “+” and “-” if you wish. The former is for zooming in, and the latter is for zooming out.

Hit the “Tick” icon.

“Take photo” and “Upload Photo,” which you saw earlier, and you need to use one of those to change DP.

“View Photo” is for viewing the DP, and “Remove Photo” removes it. Choose the latter and hit “Remove” in the popup if you want to remove it.
