In this post, you’ll see the steps to add or remove single or multiple admins from the WhatsApp group.
You’ll also see the steps to remove yourself as an admin and add yourself as a participant to the WhatsApp group.
And the steps to allow admins only to send messages in the WhatsApp group and change group information.
You need to be an admin to follow the steps in this guide. Let’s begin.
Add or Remove an Admin from a WhatsApp Group
If you create a WhatsApp group, you’re the super admin. The “super admin” is the person who has formed the group and can add admins to the group. Once the super admin makes a participant an admin, they can add admins.
Note that a group can have unlimited admins, and no other admins can dismiss the super admin as an admin or remove the same from the group.
Here’s another essential thing to note: You’ll see dismissing as admin in the below steps, which means that the person will not be an admin but a group participant. If you want to remove an admin entirely from the group (which is neither admin nor member), you need to remove that person from the group.
Android or iPhone
Open WhatsApp and open the group chat. Hit the group name at the top and hit the participant name.
Select “Dismiss as Admin” to remove an admin.
Select “Make Group Admin” to add an admin to the WhatsApp group.
Web or Desktop
On the Web or Desktop, hit the group chat and click on the group name.
On the Desktop, select “Participants” in the popup.
Find the name you want. On the Desktop, right-click on it. On the Web, hover the mouse over it and click the “Down arrow.”
Select “Dismiss as admin” to dismiss. To add, hit the “Make group admin” option and “Make group admin” in the popup.
Add or Remove WhatsApp Group Admins in Bulk
Note: You can’t do this task on the WhatsApp Desktop app.
If you’re using Android or iPhone, follow these steps:
Launch the WhatsApp app. Open the group chat and hit the name at the top.
Select “Group settings,” and you can see “Edit group admins.” Hit it.
Select the persons you want to add as an admin or unselect the admins you want to remove.
If you’re on Android, hit the “Tick” icon at the bottom right. If you’re on iPhone, hit “Done” at the top right.
Follow these steps if you’re using WhatsApp Web:
Open the WhatsApp Web and hit the group chat. Hit the group subject at the top and click “Group settings” on the right sidebar.
Select “Edit group admins.” Select the persons you want to add as an admin or unselect the admins you want to remove. Hit the “Tick” icon.
Remove Yourself as Group Admin and Add Yourself as Participant
You can dismiss yourself from being an admin and add yourself as the same group member. The below steps also apply if you’re the super admin.
Let’s see how to do this task on an Android device, iPhone, Desktop app, or Web:
Open the group conversation.
Post the group’s invite link in the group chat or copy and send it to yourself or save it elsewhere as per your wish.
Exit from the group. Now, you are neither an admin nor a participant. Use the invite link and add yourself as a group member.
