How to Remove Admins from WhatsApp Group

In this post, you’ll see how to remove single or multiple admins at once from the WhatsApp group.

You’ll also see the steps to remove yourself as an admin and add yourself as a participant to the WhatsApp group.

Remember, no other admins can’t remove the admin who created the group. Only the latter can remove themselves, and the steps are at the post bottom.

Also, remember that you can’t remove admin when you are a group member, and you need to be an admin to follow the steps in this guide.

I use Google Pixel 4a (Android 12), Windows 11 PC, and iPhone X.

Remove Admin from WhatsApp Group

Follow these steps if you’re using an Android phone or iPhone:

Open the WhatsApp Messenger app and open the group chat.

Hit the group name at the top and scroll down until you find the participant name you want to become an admin.

Hit the participant’s name.

If you’re on the iPhone, you can see these three options: Info, Dismiss as Admin and Remove from Group.

Select Dismiss as Admin, and that’s all.

If you’re on an Android device, you can see these five options: Message (member name), View (member name), Dismiss as admin, Remove (member name), and Verify security code.

Hit Dismiss as admin, and that’s all.

If you’re using WhatsApp Web or Desktop app, follow these steps:

Open the WhatsApp Web or Desktop app and hit the group chat.

Hit the group subject at the top and find the admin name you want to dismiss on the left sidebar.

Hover the mouse over it and see the Down arrow. Click on it.

You can see the “Dismiss as admin” option. Click on it, and that’s all.

Remove Yourself as Group Admin and Add Yourself as Participant

You can dismiss yourself from being an admin and add yourself as the same group member. The below steps also apply if you’re the super admin.

The “super admin” is the person who has created the group. Remember that no other admins can dismiss that person as admin.

Let’s see how to do this task on the Android device, iPhone, WhatsApp Desktop app, or Web:

Open the group chat.

Post the group’s invite link in the group chat or copy the link and send it to yourself or save it elsewhere as per your wish.

Now exit from the group.

After that, use the invite link and add yourself as a group member.

That’s all.
