When you right-click a blank space on your desktop or in File Explorer (not This PC or Quick access), you’ll see a context menu that includes New.
You can remove it from the context menu if you don’t want it. Let’s see how. I use Windows 11 here.
Remove New from the Context Menu
Here are the steps:
Open the Registry Editor. I recommend that you create a backup of the Registry before continuing.
Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Directory > Background > shellex > ContextMenuHandlers > New.
Double-click Default in the right pane.
Add – (hyphen) to the beginning of the Value data field.
Then click OK.
That’s it.
Note: You can add New to the context menu by removing the hyphen you added.
I hope this guide, “How to Remove New from the Context Menu,” is helpful to you.
Thanks for reading.
