How to Remove Share with Skype (Windows 10)

If you right-click on a file, you will see the Share with Skype option in the context menu.

You can remove this option if you want. Let’s see how.

If you have installed Skype from the Microsoft Store, do the following:

Open the Registry Editor. I suggest that you back up the Registry before proceeding.

Expand the following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Shell Extensions.

Hit Blocked key.

If you don’t see this key, you have to create it. Here’s how:

Right-click on Shell Extensions. Select New > Key, enter the name as Blocked, and then press Enter.

Right-click on the space in the right pane.

Select New > String Value.

Enter {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8} and press Enter.

Restart the File Explorer.

That’s it. Now you can see that the context menu no longer shows “Share with Skype.”

Note that you can get the option back if you want, and all you have to do is delete the String Value you’ve created and restart the File Explorer.

Alternative Method

Open the Registry Editor. I suggest that you back up the Registry before proceeding.

Extend the following keys: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > PackagedCom > ClassIndex.

Right-click the {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8} key.

Hit Rename.

Add – as a prefix to the name and then press Enter.

That’s it. Now right-click on the file and you won’t see the “Share with Skype” option.

Note that installing the new version of Skype will return this option, so you will need to follow these steps after the installation.

Remember that you can reverse at any time, and for that, all you have to do is remove the – that you added to the name as a prefix.

Follow these steps for the Skype desktop app:

Open the Registry Editor. I suggest that you back up the Registry before proceeding.

Expand the following keys: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > * > shell.

Hit ShareWithSkype.

Right-click on the space in the right pane.

Select New > String Value.

Enter the name as ProgrammaticAccessOnly and then press Enter.

That’s all.
