How to Restart or Reset Microsoft Edge

In this post, you’ll see the steps to restart and reset Microsoft Edge. In this instance, I’m using PC and Android. Let’s start with the former.

Open Edge browser.

In the address bar, type edge://settings/reset and then press the “Enter” key.

You will now see “Restore settings to their default values.” on the right. Hit it.

You can now see a pop-up that says: This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.

If you agree, click the “Reset” button in the pop-up.

That’s all.

Note: To clear items such as saved passwords that were unaffected by the reset, use “Clear browsing data.”

Here is an alternate method:

Note: Remember that this method will reset the Edge browser completely.

Close Microsoft Edge completely.

Open Run Command. Type %localappdata% and then press the Enter key.

Open the Microsoft folder.

Find the Edge folder. Delete it.

That’s all.

Android Device

You can reset Edge for Android and here’s how:

Open the Settings app.

Hit Apps & notifications.

Tap See all X apps. X is a number.

Find and tap Edge.

Click Storage & cache > Clear storage.

Tap the Clear all data button.

Tap OK on the pop-up.

That’s it.

How to Restart Edge Browser without Losing Tabs

To restart the browser, close it and then reopen it. The browser loses its tabs this way.

Here’s how you can restart your Edge browser without losing your tabs:

Type edge://restart in the address bar of the Microsoft Edge browser and press the “Enter” key to restart.

That’s it.

In order to make this more convenient, you can create a favorite for the above, and make it available in the favorites bar.
