If you right-click on the drive, file, or folder and hit the Properties option in the context menu, you will see its “Properties” window.
You will see the “Security” tab in it, where you can make permission changes.
In this post, you will see two different ways to enable or disable the Security tab of the drive, file, and folder properties. Pick the one you like.
In this case, I use a Windows 11 PC. Let’s start.
Disable the Security Tab on Windows 11 using Registry Editor
Here are the steps:
Extend the following keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies.
Hit the Explorer key.
If you don’t see the Explorer key, you need to create it. Here’s how: Right-click on the Policies key and select New > Key. Enter the name as Explorer and press the Enter key.
Right-click on the blank space in the right pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Enter the name as NoSecurityTab and press the Enter key.
Double-click the NoSecurityTab. In the Value data field, provide 1 and press the Enter key.
That’s it. There is no longer a Security tab in the Properties window.
Note: To enable the Security tab, you must replace 1 with 0 or delete NoSecurityTab.
Alternatively, you can try these steps to complete the same task.
Type the following command and press the Enter key to disable the Security tab.
Reg ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoSecurityTab /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
Type in the following command to enable the Security tab and press the Enter key.
Reg ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer /v NoSecurityTab /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Disable the Security Tab on Windows 11 using the Local Group Policy Editor
Here are the steps:
Type gpedit.msc in the Run Command Box and press the Enter key.
Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components.
Hit File Explorer.
You will find the “Remove Security tab” on the right pane. Double-click on it.
Select Enabled and click OK.
Note: If you want to enable the Security tab, follow the steps above and select Not Configured or Disabled.
