How to Select Messages or Chats on WhatsApp

In this post, you’ll see the steps to select single or multiple messages and chats on WhatsApp.

Note that the steps below apply for both the group and contact chats.

I use Google Pixel 4a (Android 12), Windows 11 PC, and iPhone X. Let’s start.

How to Select Single or Multiple Chats on WhatsApp for Android

  1. Open the WhatsApp Messenger app, and you’re in the Chats tab, where you can see all your unarchived chats.
  2. If you want to select a conversation, long-press it.
  3. To select multiple conversations, long-press a chat and hit the remaining ones.
  4. To select all chats, long-press a conversation and hit the three vertical dots at the top right. Tap the “Select all” option.

That’s it. Note that you can see a checkmark in the chosen conversations.

Select Single or Multiple Chats on WhatsApp for iPhone

Ensure you’re in the Chats tab to see your unarchived conversations in the WhatsApp Messenger app.

Tap the Edit at the top left and select the chats you like.

Note: You can’t do this task on the WhatsApp Desktop or Web.

Select Single or Multiple Messages on WhatsApp for Android

Remember that the below steps apply to messages of you and other people(s) in the conversation.

Here are the steps:

Open the WhatsApp Messenger app and hit the chat you prefer.

If you want to select a single message, long-press it.

If you’re going to select multiple messages, long-press a message you like and tap the remaining ones.

Note that there is no option to select all messages at once.

Note: You can’t select a message on WhatsApp for iPhone.

How to Select Messages in Chat on WhatsApp Web or Desktop App

Remember that the below steps apply to messages of you and other people(s) in the conversation.

Here are the steps:

Open the WhatsApp Web or Desktop app and hit the conversation you like.

To select a single or many messages, you need to do these steps:

Hit the three horizontal dots (if you’re on the Desktop app) or three vertical dots (if you’re on the Web) at the top right.

Click “Select messages” and select the messages you want.

That’s all.

Note that there is no option to select all messages at once in the Web and Desktop app.
