How to add an app shortcut to an Android home screen
Go to the home screen where you want to add the shortcut for an Android app.
Open the app drawer (swipe up from the bottom of the home screen for that).
Find the app for which you want a shortcut on the home screen.
Press and drag it, and you are now on the home screen. Release the hold where you want.

Remove app shortcut
Press and drag the shortcut you want to remove from the home screen.
You can now see the Remove option at the top of the home screen.
Drop the shortcut on the Remove option.
How to add a file or folder shortcut to Android device home screen
Install the Astro File Manager app.
Open the app and go through the setup.
You are on the main screen. Close the app.
Now go to the home screen you prefer and then long-press on a blank space in it.
Press the Astro widget for a long time and place it on the home screen where you want.
To add a file shortcut, find and tap the file.
Press the desired folder long if you want to add a folder shortcut.
Press long the shortcut, and you will see Remove at the top. Drag and drop the shortcut on it.

How to add a widget
Go to the home screen you prefer.
Press the space on the home screen for a long time, then tap Widgets.
Press the desired widget for a long time.
You are now on the home screen, where you can place the widget where you want.
Two essential things to bear in mind:
- If the home screen does not have enough space for the widget, you cannot add it there, and you will see a message saying so.
- You may need to configure the widget after placing it on the home screen.
Press the widget you want to remove for a long time.
At the top, you will now see the Remove option.
Drop the widget on the Remove option.
If you want to add a section of the Settings app to the home screen, do the following:
Go to the desired home screen and then press the space for a long time.
Hit Widgets. Find and long-press the Settings widget.
Place it anywhere on the home screen.
You can now see these options in the Settings shortcut screen:
- Data usage
- Wi-Fi hotspot
- App info
- Notification log
- Night Light
- Do Not Disturb
- About phone
Choose the one you prefer.
How to add a contact shortcut
Go to the home screen you like.
Open the Contacts app.
Tap the contact you want.
Hit the three vertical dots in the upper right corner.
Tap the Add to Home screen option, which you’ll find above the Set ringtone.
If you prefer to place it manually, hold down the icon and place it where you want it. Otherwise, tap Add automatically.
Remember that if you opt for the latter, you may not find the shortcut on the home screen that you prefer.
Note: You can remove the shortcut as usual.
How to add a home screen to Android
Drag a shortcut (app, file, or folder) or a folder or widget to the right edge of the screen.
You are now on an empty home screen.
Loosen the hold.
Note: If you want to remove the home screen, remove or move all shortcuts, app folders, and widgets from it.
How to reset Android home screen to default
Note that I’m here on an Android device with its default launcher.
Tap Apps & notifications > See all X apps (X displays the number of apps installed and disabled, except for system apps).
Find and tap your launcher app.
Tap “Storage & cache.”
Press the “Clear storage.”
In the popup, tap “OK.”
I hope this guide, “How to Add a Shortcut to Android Home Screen (and More),” is helpful to you.
