How to Remove Shortcuts from Shortcut Bar in Facebook App
In this post, you’ll see how to add or remove shortcuts from the shortcut bar and turn off notification dots. Let’s begin.
Add or Remove Shortcuts from Shortcut Bar
Android or iPhone
The shortcut bar on my Facebook app has Home, Watch, Marketplace, Profile, Notifications, and Menu. Yours may have different shortcuts.
You’ll find the shortcut bar at the bottom on an iPhone or top on an Android, and you can’t move the former from top to bottom or bottom to top.
The Notifications, Menu, and Home aren’t removable. But the rest are, and here’s how:
Open the Facebook app and tap “Menu.”
Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Profile settings.
In the “Shortcuts” section, hit the “Shortcut Bar,” and you can see the following in the “Available Shortcuts” section:
- Friend Requests
- Groups
- Marketplace
- Profile
- Watch
- Gaming
- Feeds
Also, there’s a drop-down list beside all the above and open it for the one you like.

Select “Pin” if you want the shortcut in the shortcut bar, and it’ll appear in the “Your shortcuts” section. Remember that you can pin up to 3 shortcuts.
The “Auto” option means that FB will personalize the shortcuts based on your activity. Remember that choosing this option makes the shortcut appear in the “Available Shortcuts” section.
Choose “Hide” if you don’t want the shortcut in the shortcut bar, and it’ll appear in the “Hidden Shortcuts” section.
That’s all.
Alternatively, you can do this task as follows:
Press the shortcut on the shortcut bar and tap “Hide from shortcut bar.”

That’s it.
The other options you may see are “Turn off notification dots” (which you’ll see below), “Pin to shortcut bar” (for pinning the shortcut), and “Shortcut bar preferences” (which will take you to the Shortcut bar screen).

The “Your shortcuts” section on the FB left sidebar contains shortcuts, which are the things you do most on FB.
Getting rid of shortcuts is easy, and here’s how:
Sign into Facebook.
Hover your mouse over “Your Shortcuts” in the left sidebar and hit “Edit.”
You can see shortcuts and a drop-down list beside each one in the popup.

To remove a shortcut, open the drop-down list beside it and select “Hide.”
The shortcut you pin will remain at the top of the “Your Shortcuts” section. To pin a shortcut, open the drop-down list beside it and select “Pin to Top.”
Save your changes by clicking the “Save” button.
Note: To unpin or add a shortcut to the “Your Shortcuts” section, open the drop-down list beside the shortcut and select “Sort Automatically.” It shows the shortcuts in the “Your Shortcuts” section, which Facebook automatically sorts.
Turn Off Notification Dots
Notification dots on Facebook is a feature. In-app notifications are displayed as notification dots because of this. Let’s see how to turn it off on a PC, Android, or iPhone.
Android or iPhone
Long press the shortcut on the shortcut bar. The “Turn off notification dots” option is visible. Tap on it.
That’s all. You must long-press the shortcut and hit the “Turn on notification dots” to turn it on.
Here’s an alternate method:
In the Facebook app, hit the “Menu.”
Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Profile settings.
In the “Notifications” section, you can see “Notification dots.”
Turn off the toggle switch next to the one you want to turn off the notification dots.

That’s all. You can turn on notifications dots by turning the toggle switch on.

Sign in to your Facebook account.
I can see “Home,” “Friends,” “Watch,” “Marketplace,” and “Gaming” at the top. You may see different ones.
Except for the former, all of these got notification dots enabled.
Here’s how you can get rid of the red dot on the Facebook tab:
Hit the one for which you want to turn off the notification dots. In this case, I choose “Friends.” However, these steps are also applicable to others.
On the left sidebar, click the “Gear” icon.
Turn off the “Show notification dots.”

That’s it. To turn on notification dots on Facebook, turn on “Show notification dots.”
