Star Messages in WhatsApp
Starred messages feature lets you star messages in WhatsApp, making finding them easy and quick. Let’s see the steps.
Android or iPhone
Here’s how you can star a specific message on WhatsApp:
Open the WhatsApp app.
Hit the group or contact chat you prefer.
Long press the message. It can be yours or someone else’s. You can select multiple messages if you’re on Android.
Choose the “Star” option if you’re using an iPhone.
Tap the “Star” icon if you’re using Android.
Web or Desktop
On the Web, open the chat and hover over the message. Please click the down arrow and select “Star message.”
On the Desktop, right-click on the message and select “Star.”
To star multiple messages at once on the Web:
Open the conversation. Click three vertical dots at the top right, then “Select messages.” Select the messages and click the “Star” icon at the bottom.
Here are some important things to note:
- Not only text, but you can also star the media.
- Except for you, no one can see your starred WhatsApp messages.
- No one knows if you star a WhatsApp message.
- You can’t star multiple messages on WhatsApp for iPhone and Desktop.
- Tapping or clicking on the starred message will take you to that message.

Follow the steps below to see all starred messages from all chats:
On Android, hit the three vertical dots on the top right and tap “Starred messages.” On your iPhone, tap the “Settings” tab and select “Starred Messages.”
If you’re on WhatsApp Web, click on three vertical dots on the left sidebar and select “Starred messages” between “New community” and “Settings.”
If you’re on the Desktop app, hit the three horizontal dots in the left sidebar. Select “Starred messages” beneath “Filter chats by.”
Follow these steps on Android or iPhone to check starred messages for a specific chat only: Open the conversation and tap the name on top. Hit “Starred Messages.”
To complete the same task on the Web, please open chat and click the name at the top. Hit “Starred messages” above “Mute notifications” on the right sidebar.
Unstar WhatsApp Messages
Here are two things to note:
- Remember that removing a star from a message won’t delete it.
- You can also follow all steps below for starred messages from a particular chat.
Follow these steps to unstar single or multiple messages on an Android device or iPhone:
Open WhatsApp chat and long-press the message. Remember that on Android, you can select multiple messages.
Select the “Unstar” icon if you’re on Android.
If you’re using an iPhone, tap the “Unstar” option.
Alternatively, follow the below steps to complete the same task on Android or iPhone:
Go to the “Starred messages” (steps are in the above section).
If you’re using Android, select the message(s) and hit the “Unstar” icon at the top.
On iPhone, tap “Edit” on the top right. Select the message(s) and tap the “Unstar” icon at the bottom. Tap “Done” on the top right.
On the Desktop, right-click on the starred message and select “Unstar.”
To unstar a single message on the Web, open the contact or group chat and hover over the message. Click the “Down arrow,” and the “Unstar message” option.
Alternatively, follow these steps to complete the same task on the Web:
Go to “Starred messages” (steps are in the above section) and hover over the message. Click the “Down arrow” and select the “Unstar message” option.
To unstar multiple messages on the Web, open chat and click three vertical dots on the top right. Please click “Select messages.” Select the messages and click the “Unstar” icon at the bottom.
Here’s how you can unstar all the starred WhatsApp messages simultaneously. This only works on WhatsApp for Android and the Web.
Go to the “Starred messages” (the steps are in the above section). Click three vertical dots on top, then “Unstar all.” Select “Unstar” in the popup.
