How to Star on Google Docs or Google Drive

Let’s see how to do this task. In this case, I use a Windows 11 PC, Google Pixel 4a (Android 12), and iPhone (iOS 15.2.1).

How to Star a File on Google Docs

Let’s see how to do this on Android, iPhone, and PC.

PC

Sign in to Google Docs and open the document you want.

Click on the “Star” icon beside the file name at the top.

That’s it. The yellow star indicates that the file is starred.

To view the starred files, follow these steps:

Sign in to Google Docs.

Hit the “Folder” icon, which you can see below the search box.

Navigate to the Starred section, and you will see all the starred files.

To unstar, follow these steps: open the document you want to unstar and click on the “Star” icon beside the file name at the top.

Android or iPhone

Here are the steps:

Open the Google Docs app.

Tap the three horizontal dots (if you’re using an iPhone) or the three vertical dots (if you’re on Android) in the file you want to star.

You can find the “Add to Starred” option. Hit it.

That’s it.

To view the starred files, tap on the three horizontal lines at the top left and select “Starred.”

Follow these steps to unstar:

Go to “Starred.” The steps are above to get there.

Tap the three horizontal dots (if you’re using iPhone) or the three vertical dots (if you’re using Android) in the file you want to unstar.

Tap “Remove from Starred.”

That’s it.

Here’s an alternate method to star a Google Docs file:

Open the file you want in the Google Docs app.

Hit the three horizontal dots (if you’re using iPhone) or three vertical dots (if you’re on Android) in the top right.

Enable “Star file” (if you’re using iPhone) or “Star” (if you’re on Android).

That’s all.

If you want to remove the star, you need to follow the above steps but disable it instead of enabling it.

Note: Remember that the star and unstar changes you make to a Google Docs file on Google Drive reflect in Google Docs and vice versa.
