How to Tag Someone on WhatsApp Group

You can only tag people in WhatsApp group chats and not contact conversations.

The steps below apply to an Android phone, iPhone, WhatsApp Desktop app, and Web.

I use Windows 11 PC, iPhone X, and Google Pixel 4a (Android 12).

Mention Someone on WhatsApp

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the WhatsApp Messenger app and tap the group chat you want.
  2. Hit compose box at the bottom.
  3. Type @, and you can see a list of the group’s participants. Hit the name of the person you wish to tag.
  4. You can mention more members using the above step.
  5. After that, add a message and send it.

That’s it.

What happens when you tag someone on WhatsApp?

  • Tagged persons will receive a notification and see that you’ve tagged them.
  • Even if they have muted the group, they’ll receive this notification. This one doesn’t apply if you’ve been muted.
  • In the Chats tab, they will see a @ symbol in the group chat, which receives the message they’re tagged.
  • In this message, anyone who taps their name (for example, S) will be on the Contact Info screen of S. On WhatsApp Web and Desktop app, it’ll take them to the chat screen of S.

Let’s see a few questions and their answers:

  • How to tag photos in the WhatsApp app? After selecting the image, follow the steps above in the Caption field.
  • Can you mention someone in the WhatsApp status? WhatsApp has no option for this.
  • Can you mention everyone in the WhatsApp group at once? There is no option for this. But you can add all group members using the steps above.

That’s it.
