How to Disable Taskbar Buttons Combining

You’ll learn how to change the taskbar buttons size and disable taskbar buttons combining in this post. Let’s get started.

How to Disable Taskbar Buttons Combining in Windows 10

Open the taskbar settings

You will find a drop-down list under “Combine taskbar buttons.” You can find this one between Taskbar location on screen and the Show Windows Ink Workspace button.

There are three options in the drop-down list:

  • Always, hide labels – This one hides the labels and always combines the taskbar buttons.
  • When the taskbar is full – This one shows the labels and combine the taskbar buttons when the taskbar is full.
  • Never – Disables taskbar buttons from combining. This one also displays labels.

Choose “Never.”

Here’s an alternate method:

Open the Registry Editor.

Before proceeding, I recommend taking a backup of the Registry.

Go to the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > Advanced.

Locate TaskbarGlomLevel and double-click it.

Enter any of the following you prefer in the Value data field.

0 – Always, hide labels

1 – When the taskbar is full

2 – Never

Hit the OK button.

Restart the File Explorer.

That’s all.

The taskbar buttons are large by default. Follow these instructions to have small taskbar buttons:

Launch taskbar settings.

Enable the toggle switch under the “Use small taskbar buttons.”

You can find this one between “Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode” and “Use Peek to preview the desktop when you move your mouse to the Show desktop button at the end of the taskbar.”

Notes:

  • If you turn on “Use small taskbar buttons,” this will turn off “Show badges on taskbar buttons.”
  • If you want the large taskbar buttons, disable the switch under “Use small taskbar buttons.”
