How to Delete Recent Documents in WordPad

If you click on the File menu at the top of WordPad, you will find the list “Recent documents.”

Basically, it is a list of documents you recently worked on. When you click on the filename in the list, WordPad will open the document.

Now let’s look at how to remove one entry at a time and all the entries at once.

Open the Run box by pressing Windows + R; type regedit and then press Enter. Click Yes in the pop-up window.

You can now see the Registry Editor. I suggest you make a backup of the Registry before proceeding.

Extend HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Applets > Wordpad.

How to remove individual entries

You will see the entries in the right pane when you click on the “Recent File List” key.

Locate the filename you do not want in the Recent documents list in the Data column.

Right-click on this entry and select “Delete”. Click “Yes” in the confirmation window.

Remove all entries

Simply right-click on the “Recent File List” key. Choose “Delete” and then “Yes.”
