How to View WhatsApp Status Without Being Seen

In this post, you’ll see the different methods to view WhatsApp statuses without being seen.

Also, you’ll see the steps to show your status for your specific contacts on WhatsApp. Let’s start.

View Status on WhatsApp Without Being Seen

You can see the statuses by navigating to the “Status” tab in the app. On the Web and Desktop app, you can see them by clicking on the “Status” icon on the top left. Hit the status you prefer from here.

When you see someone’s status, they know you’ve seen it. But you can view it without them knowing, and here, you’ll see how to do that.

Method #1

Disable read receipts on WhatsApp.

You can view the WhatsApp status without the contact knowing it if you do that. Note that you, too, can’t know who viewed your WhatsApp status.

Here are the steps to do this: Go to WhatsApp Settings. Hit “Privacy” and turn off “Read Receipts.”

Turned off Read Receipts
  • Save

Method #2 (Android only)

Here’s another method to see the WhatsApp status secretly. But remember that this method isn’t for the text status.

Here are the steps:

In the WhatsApp app, navigate to the “Status” tab. Close the app entirely now.

Open the file manager app on your device. I use the “Files” app.

Make the file manager show the hidden files. To do that, hit the three horizontal lines at the top left and select “Settings.” Enable “Show hidden files.”

Hit the “Internal storage” and open these folders: Android > media > com.whatsapp > WhatsApp > Media > .Statuses.

You can see the statuses and open the one you like.

Method #3 (Web only)

Remember that this method is for text status only. Here are the steps:

Open WhatsApp Web in your browser’s private browsing mode.

Hit the “Status” icon on the left sidebar top.

Turn off your internet connection on your PC and view the text status you prefer.

Close the private browsing mode window and connect your PC to the internet.

Show WhatsApp Status for Some Contacts

  • If you turn off the read receipts, you’ll not know who sees your status.
  • If someone has turned off read receipts, you’ll not know whether that person has seen your status.
  • The below steps will only apply to your new status.
  • You can’t do this task on the Web and Desktop app.

Let’s see the steps.

In WhatsApp, hit the “Status” tab at the bottom and select “Privacy” in the top left.

On the “Status Privacy” screen, under the “Who Will See My Updates” section, you’ll view the below three options:

Status Privacy screen
  • Save
  • My Contacts – all your contacts can see your status updates.
  • My Contacts Except – means that all your contacts except those you’ve chosen can see your status.
  • Only Share With – this means that only the contacts you choose can view your status.

Choose the latter. Select the contacts you prefer and hit “Done” at the top right.

That’s all.

Here’s an alternate method to reach the “Status Privacy” screen: On the WhatsApp app, hit “Settings” at the bottom. Select Privacy > Status.

Launch the WhatsApp app.

Hit the “Status” tab at the top and select the three vertical dots in the top right—hit the “Status privacy.”

You’ll see these options: My contacts, My contacts except, and Only share with.

I picked the latter and the contacts. Hit the icon at the top right to select all contacts. If you’ve already chosen all, tapping this icon will deselect them.

Hit the “Tick” icon in the bottom right and tap the “Back arrow” at the top left.

That’s it.

Here’s an alternate method to reach the “Status privacy” screen: Hit the three vertical dots at the top right of the WhatsApp app. Select Settings > Privacy > Status.
