How to pin website shortcut to Windows 10 Start menu or taskbar

I use the browsers Edge, Chrome, and Firefox here.

Microsoft Edge Browser

Below are the steps for pinning a website shortcut to the taskbar or Start menu.

An alternative method to pin a website shortcut to the taskbar was discussed in this article’s following section, “Mozilla Firefox.”

Let’s look at the steps.

Open the website you want on Edge.

Hit the three horizontal dots.

Move the mouse over to “More tools.”

Depending on where you want the shortcut, press “Pin to taskbar” or “Pin to Start.”

Change the name of the shortcut in the popup if you like.

Press “Pin.”

If you see a popup, click “Yes.”

Google Chrome

Below are the steps for pinning a website shortcut to the Start menu or taskbar. The following section discussed an alternative method to pin a website shortcut to the taskbar.

Let us look at the steps.

Go to the website you want to be on in Chrome.

Hit the three horizontal dots at the top.

Move the mouse over to “More tools.”

Click on “Create shortcut.”

Select “Open as window” in the popup to open the shortcut in a new window.

Change the shortcut’s name and click the “Create” button.

Now, you can see the website shortcut on the desktop.

Right-click on it, and you will see the context menu.

Click “Pin to Start” if you want to pin the shortcut to the Start menu.

Click the Pin to taskbar option to pin the shortcut to the taskbar.

Firefox

If you want to pin a website shortcut to the taskbar, follow the steps below. It’s not just Firefox, which also applies to Edge and Chrome.

Here’s an important thing to consider:

For each browser, you can pin only one shortcut using this method. Let us see this by looking at an instance.

You’ve already pinned a shortcut to the taskbar, which opens Google. Now you’ve created a shortcut that opens Facebook. You can’t pin the latter to the taskbar until you unpin the former.

Let’s look at the steps.

Create a shortcut for Edge, Chrome, or Firefox on the desktop.

Right-click on the shortcut and click “Properties.”

In the “Target” field, go to the end. Hit the “Space bar” key.

Add: -url “https://howtoraj.com/”

Replace https://howtoraj.com/ with the desired website URL.

Click “OK.”

Now right-click on the shortcut.

Click “Pin to taskbar” if you want to pin the shortcut to the taskbar.

Note: Remove the shortcut from your desktop if you want.

How to Unpin a Website Shortcut from the Taskbar or Start Menu

To unpin from the Start menu, right-click on the tile. Select “Unpin from Start.”

To unpin from the taskbar, right-click on the shortcut. Select “Unpin from taskbar.”

If you have followed the Microsoft Edge section, you must also follow the steps below:

Open Edge.

Type edge://apps in the address bar. Press the “Enter” key.

You see what you have created.

Click on the “X” icon next to it.

Press “Remove.”

If you have followed the Google Chrome section, you must also follow the steps below:

Open the Chrome browser.

Type chrome://apps into the address bar and hit the “Enter” key.

You see what you have created.

Right-click on it and select the “Remove from Chrome” option.

Click “Remove” in the confirmation popup.
