How to Fix WhatsApp Voice Message Not Working Issue

Written by Thirumalraj

Is a voice message can’t download on your device?

Don’t you hear the voice message? Can’t you record voice notes?

If your answer is “Yes,” this guide is for you. This post will show you the solutions you need to try.

I use Google Pixel 4a (Android 12), and iPhone X. Let’s start.

Fix WhatsApp Voice Messages Not Working Issue

Solution 1

Check your internet connection.

Solution 2

Restart your Android phone or iPhone.

Solution 3

If you can’t record the voice notes, make sure the WhatsApp app has permission to access the microphone.

Here’s how you can do it on Android and iPhone:

Here are the steps if you’re using an Android phone:

Open the Settings app. Hit Apps > See all X apps. X is a number.

Find and hit WhatsApp.

Tap Permissions and hit “Microphone.”

Now you can see these three options:

1. Don’t allow.

2. Ask every time: If you choose this option, WhatsApp will ask about microphone access each time you try to use a feature that requires the microphone.

You’ll see a popup with these three options:

  • While using the app – you’ll see this below.
  • Only this time – allow WhatsApp to access the microphone this time only.
  • Don’t allow – which you’ve seen above.

Choose the one you prefer.

3. Allow only while using the app: WhatsApp will have access to the microphone only when you’re using it.

Pick the one you prefer from any of the latter two options.

That’s it.

Here are the steps if you’re using iPhone:

  1. Open the Settings app and hit WhatsApp.
  2. Enable “Microphone,” and that’s it.

Solution 4

Check your device volume if you can’t hear the WhatsApp voice message.

If it is low, increase it.

Solution 5

If the storage space is full, WhatsApp can’t be able to download voice messages.

So, check the storage space available on your device.

Solution 6

If you can’t be able to record a voice message, it may be because an app that has access to the microphone uses the latter.

Close the apps which have microphone access and try recording a voice message.

You can try disabling them and recording the voice note if that does not work.

Here’s how you can disable the app on your Android device:

Open the Settings app. Hit Apps > See all X apps. X is a number.

Find and hit the app.

Select Disable and hit Disable app in the popup.

That’s all.

Solution 7 (Android only)

Clear WhatsApp cache on your Android device.

Solution 8

Uninstall WhatsApp and reinstall it. I suggest a backup before proceeding with this.

That’s it.
